I’ve stayed in plenty of cheap motels over the years and even slept in a car or two—but never spent time in anything as funky as Super 8’s ROAD8 Concept Jeep.
The bright yellow and red ride mimics the hotel’s color scheme and has a built-in coffee maker, mini-fridge, and custom seats made from bedroom covers. Super 8 revealed its wacky wheels at this year’s New York auto show.
It’s the first time that we know of that a concept car was inspired by a hotel’s guest room redesign. The company used a 2017 Jeep Wrangler as its base and aside from the coffee maker; it added touch screen monitors, a nightstand-like dash, and black and white artwork that is now featured in its hotel rooms—what, no waffle maker?
Under the hood, the hotel chain thankfully kept the engine stock, but added a Super 8 branded engine cover and a giant photo of South Dakota’s Badlands National Park.
The key fob is road sign shaped and is a shout out to the chain’s first hotel that is still located in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Super 8 is celebrating its 45th year in the business.
ROAD8 is currently on display at the New York auto show through April 8. We bet Motel 6 steps up its game for next year’s show—a Mercedes-Benz AMG Motel 6×6, perhaps?
